Cookies & Storage

This page describes every form of device storage Plandentic uses on plandentic.com. We have intentionally designed this site to require no consent banner - by avoiding all non-essential cookies and storage. The only things we save on your device are your theme and language preferences, and only if you choose them.

Tracking cookies we use

None. We do not use:

• Third-party tracking cookies
• Advertising or retargeting cookies
• Social-media cookies (Facebook, LinkedIn, X / Twitter pixels)
• Analytics cookies that identify you across sessions or sites
• Browser fingerprinting or other invasive tracking technologies

This is a deliberate product decision, not an oversight - see our Privacy Policy for the full privacy-first stance.

Other device storage we use

The ePrivacy Directive applies to any storage on your device - cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB. So even though we don't use cookies, we want to be transparent about the two pieces of localStorage we do use:

Theme preference

Key: theme  ·  Storage: localStorage  ·  Value: "light", "dark", or "system"

When you click the theme toggle in the header, we save your choice in your browser so the site remembers it next time you visit (and applies it before the first paint, so you don't see a "flash" of the wrong theme). It contains only the preference value - no identifiers, no PII, no tracking flags - and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Language preference

Key: lang  ·  Storage: localStorage  ·  Value: a language code - "en", "hr", "it", or "de"

When you pick a language - from the tab at the bottom-left of every page, or by answering the tooltip that appears when we notice your browser is set to a language this page exists in - we save that choice in your browser. We use it to decide which language to offer you next time. We never redirect you automatically: the address you asked for is always the page you get. Like the theme value, it holds only the language code - no identifiers, no PII, no tracking flags - and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Dismissing that tooltip saves the language you are already reading, rather than a separate "you have seen this" marker. A marker like that would be our convenience rather than your preference, so we don't store one. Ignoring it stores nothing at all.

Why localStorage and not cookies

Legally it makes no difference - the ePrivacy Directive covers any storage on your device, so the rules that apply to a cookie apply to these values too. The difference is practical: a cookie is attached to every request your browser makes to us, which would mean your theme and language reaching our servers and sitting in our access logs. In localStorage they never leave your browser. That is why we use it.

Why no consent banner

Under ePrivacy Directive Article 5(3), storage is exempt from prior consent when it is "strictly necessary for an information society service explicitly requested by the user". A theme toggle you click, or a language you choose, is that explicit request; saving the value you chose is the technical implementation of it. Nothing is written before you make the choice.

This is the same legal basis used by Notion, Linear, Vercel, GitHub, and is consistent with German DPA guidance and iubenda's classification of preference storage. The strictly-necessary exemption applies as long as:

• The storage contains only the preference value (it does)
• It is never transmitted to a third party (it isn't)
• It is only written on explicit user action, no silent profiling (it is)

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics - a privacy-first, GDPR-compliant tool that:

• Does not use cookies or any device storage
• Does not track visitors across websites
• Collects only anonymous, aggregated statistics (page views, referrers, device categories)
• Cannot be traced back to individual users
• Is hosted in the EU on EU-owned infrastructure

Because Plausible processes no personal data and stores nothing on your device, it does not require consent under GDPR / ePrivacy. It will not appear in any "Accept / Reject cookies" dialog, because none is required.

What would change in the future

If we ever add any of the following, this page will be updated and a consent mechanism will be introduced where required by law:

• User authentication on the marketing site (would introduce session cookies)
• Marketing pixels or retargeting tags (Meta, LinkedIn, Google Ads, etc.)
• Embedded third-party media that sets cookies (e.g. youtube.com - we'd use youtube-nocookie.com instead)
• Live-chat widgets that drop tracking cookies
• A/B testing tools or session-replay tools

Today, none of these are present.

How to clear or disable storage

You can clear both preferences at any time by clearing site data for plandentic.com in your browser, or by switching your browser to "private" / "incognito" mode (which discards all storage when the window closes).

In your browser settings you can also block all storage for this site. The only consequences are that your theme choice will not persist between visits - every page load falls back to your operating-system theme - and that we go back to judging which language to offer you from your browser's own language settings.
